SPACES IN MOTION

Concept study for the refurbishment of a coffee/relax room in one of the Virgin Active locations in London. The experiments reflect the idea of movement.
In the first hypothesis, the attention focuses on the line features and its ability to communicate dynamism (vertical and oblique line), slow and harmonious motions (wavy line) or stillness (horizontal line). The various line types are combined and actualised in a continuous metal profile that extrudes through the room, dividing the space physically and conceptually.
In the second hypothesis, the line study is applied to the realisation of partitioning screens. The slow movement of the diverse shadows projected on the floor, combined with various colours solutions, produces very different perceptions of the same space.
In the third hypothesis, motion changes look and is represented by an installation of autumn trees and falling leaves. The leaves, having the same red colour of the brand, are small post-it notes on which clients can write their thoughts about Virgin Active, hanging them back on the branches in the case of positive comments, or leaving them on the trees' roots in the case of suggestions and negative-constructive feedbacks. In the evening, the responsible staff will arrange for the collection and management of the "fallen" leaves.
